Breaking the Surface: The Future of Deep Sea Mining in the Pacific  explores how the two Pacific Island nations (Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu) are working together with their communities to manage future opportunities and impacts associated with the deep sea mining industry.

The documentary demonstrates the critical importance of the work of the Deep Sea Minerals Project to all stakeholders and takes a more regional focus to highlight the two countries’ consultation process and efforts.

Breaking the Surface is the third of a series of films supported by the SPC-EU funded Pacific Deep Sea Minerals Project. The first film, "Under Pressure" examines the perspectives of different stakeholders involved with deep sea mineral resources in the Pacific, while the second film, "Out of Darkness" focuses on environmental impacts of deep sea mining.
